Background

Wayfair is a popular online home store for home goods such as decor, furniture, pet essentials, etc. While Wayfair has great products and promotions, their e-commerce website has a poor UX design due to their poor navigation and overwhelming information.

Problem

After doing my research, I found that the Wayfair website has one of the worst UX/UI design. The website lacks hierarchy, has a cluttered navigation, poor information architecture, and uses an overwhelming amount of images and products.

Process

Brainstorm

I collected sources of inspiration, created a mood board, and wrote a project brief that includes the objectives, solution, and target audience, My idea was to improve the Wayfair website by simplifying it, making it more user-friendly, and giving the website a modern feel due to their outdated UI.

Identify

The idea that was most viable was simplifying the navigation menu to create more of an easier and less confusing system for the user. My goal was to challenge myself to redesign the Wayfair website in a refreshed way by rebranding it so it can be functional, easy to use and enjoyable for users.

Define

I simplified the navigation menu and overall interface design. I redesigned the website to provide a more intuitive experience by updating the logo, font, images, colors, incorporating a hamburger menu in the navigation bar, and giving the website an elevated interface.

Ideate: Wireframes of the Home, Category, Product Page.

The flow is intuitive and easy to follow while displaying clear hierarchy. The proposed concept will help in retaining visual interest and help the users in finding information.

Prototype and Test

My development stages for this project was to focus on the problem, create lo-fidelity mockups, and test on a specific device. I tested and presented the prototype to my peers for feedback.

Refine and Implement

I refined on the prototype based on student feedback. I implemented and produced the finished product by creating a modern look of the website.

Results

After redesigning and rebranding the Wayfair website, the hamburger menu is much more effective making it easier for the user to find certain items. The updated fonts, images, and colors make the website feel modern and less overwhelming.
